Sloppy Joes are a classic American sandwich featuring savory ground beef in a tangy tomato sauce, served on a soft bun for a hearty and satisfying meal.

  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 1 cup tomato ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
  2. Add chopped onion and green bell pepper; cook until vegetables are tender.
  3. Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and brown sugar.
  4. Simmer the mixture for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Toast hamburger buns lightly, then spoon the beef mixture onto the bottom half of each bun.
  7. Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.

Notes

For extra tang, add a splash of apple cider vinegar or top with pickles for added crunch and flavor.
