Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith or Fuji)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring
  • Wooden sticks

Instructions

  1. Wash and thoroughly dry the apples, then insert wooden sticks into the stem ends.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water; stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil without stirring and cook until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer.
  4. Remove from heat and quickly stir in red food coloring.
  5. Dip each apple into the hot candy syrup, coating evenly, and let excess drip off.
  6. Place the coated apples on a greased baking sheet or parchment paper to cool and harden.
  7. Optionally, sprinkle chopped nuts or sprinkles onto the apples before the coating sets.
  8. Allow the candy to harden completely before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, try using cinnamon or vanilla extract in the candy syrup. Serve immediately or store in a cool, dry place for up to 2 days.
