Kashmiri Pink Chai

Freshly prepared Kashmiri Pink Chai in traditional pot

Kashmiri Pink Chai is a traditional fragrant tea from Kashmir with a unique pink hue, infused with aromatic spices and a creamy texture, perfect for warming your senses.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons green tea leaves (preferably Kashmiri tea leaves)
  • 4 green cardamom pods, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons crushed almonds
  • 2 tablespoons crushed pistachios
  • 1 tablespoon crushed walnuts (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon rose water (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
  2. Add the green tea leaves, crushed cardamom, and baking soda. Boil the mixture vigorously, allowing it to turn a deep red color and develop the characteristic pink hue. This may take 10-15 minutes.
  3. Add salt and continue to boil for another 2 minutes.
  4. Reduce the heat and add the whole milk. Stir well and simmer for 10 minutes, allowing the tea to develop a creamy consistency and pink color.
  5. Strain the tea into cups using a fine mesh strainer.
  6. Garnish with crushed almonds, pistachios, walnuts, and a splash of rose water if desired.
  7. Serve hot and enjoy the rich, nutty aroma and flavor.

Notes

For an extra rich flavor, use evaporated milk instead of whole milk and adjust sweetness to taste by adding sugar if preferred.
