French Onion Dip

French Onion Dip is a creamy and flavorful classic snack made with caramelized onions and sour cream, perfect for parties and gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, divided
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Chopped fresh chives for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat butter and olive oil over medium heat until melted.
  2. Add the sliced onions, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and sugar. Cook, stirring occasionally, until onions are deeply caramelized and golden brown, about 25-30 minutes.
  3. Remove onions from the skillet and let cool slightly.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine sour cream, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, remaining salt, and black pepper. Stir well.
  5. Fold the caramelized onions into the sour cream mixture until fully incorporated.
  6. Cover and refrigerate the dip for at least 1 hour to allow flavors to meld.
  7. Before serving, garnish with chopped fresh chives if desired. Serve chilled with potato chips, crackers, or fresh vegetables.

Notes

For an extra savory twist, try adding a splash of soy sauce or a pinch of smoked paprika to the dip before chilling.
