Puff Pastry Caprese

Puff Pastry Caprese features flaky puff pastry topped with fresh mozzarella, ripe tomatoes, and aromatic basil for a simple and elegant Italian appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced
  • 2 medium ripe tomatoes, thinly sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp balsamic glaze
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface to smooth out folds.
  3. Transfer pastry to the baking sheet and brush edges with beaten egg to create a golden crust.
  4. Using a fork, prick the center of the pastry to prevent excessive puffing.
  5. Bake puff pastry for 12-15 minutes or until golden and puffed. Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
  6. Arrange mozzarella slices on the puff pastry, then layer tomato slices evenly on top.
  7. Season with salt and pepper, then drizzle olive oil and balsamic glaze over the toppings.
  8. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding a sprinkle of dried oregano or fresh cracked black pepper just before serving.
